The beginnings of life

The negative hydrogen ion (H-) seems to be a powerful life-sustaining antioxidant; it is found in many biological systems and plays a crucial role in all known life on the planet. If the pH of blood drops below 7.3, acidosis will occur, if the blood pH increases over 7.5, alkalosis sets in.
